Two synthesizers, one guitar, a looper, and a dizzying array of foot pedals. Throw in one humanoid to push the buttons. Meet Aband*nthecar, the experimental one-man synthpop band from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Evolving as a series of experimental performances over 2013 and refined over the impossibly cold winter that followed, Aband*nthecar's music builds layer by layer into carefully-woven cinematic soundscapes, providing a unique backdrop for exploring themes ranging from time travel and murder mysteries, the isolation that permeates our prairie winters, to a sometimes biting, but honest portrayal of modern urban life.
The material draws from Johnny's experiences growing up in the Windsor-Detroit music scene of the late 90's, then moving to Winnipeg at eighteen and the massive artistic and cultural influence that is this great city.
Aband*nthecar continues to evolve a one-of-a-kind live experience that has taken it from bars, block parties and house concerts to the Matlock Festival, while also publishing a consistent stream of demos on its website. Aband*nthecar is currently putting the finishing touches on a debut EP, to be released in early 2015.
